In August 2021, I founded Lung Rehab Voyage, later in 2023 renamed as Tele-Therapies in the UK, where I currently serve as the Clinical Director. Driven by a clear vision and strategic growth initiatives, I established the organization’s mission and led efforts to produce valuable educational resources and hosted webinars focused on respiratory and mental health. Supported donations to charities including Anxiety UK, COPD foundation, Cancer Research UK, Nelson Trust, Age UK, Caring for Communities and People. By fostering strong stakeholder relationships, I enhanced service delivery and collaboration, while performance evaluations and process improvement initiatives kept the organization aligned with its goals. My dedication to public health shone through in my provision of free education on lung and mental health, and my expertise was further recognized as a reviewer in the current COPD-Research Advisory Group.
Before founding Tele-Therapies, I spent three years at Cardiff University as a Lecturer in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy. My teaching style created an energetic and engaging learning atmosphere, and I adopted hybrid team-based learning to increase student interactivity and participation. I have published a research paper on the imapct of my Hybrid Team Based learning and teaching in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy. I led the Health Promotion module and taught a range of topics, from Health Economics and Pulmonary Rehabilitation to Motivational Interviewing and Basic Life Support. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I played an active role in curriculum design and university committees focused on health and safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion. I also provided research supervision for under and postgraduate physiotherapy students. My passion for research flourished, resulting in published articles and the development of opportunities in international research projects. My key achievemnet in this experience was accredited as Fellow of Higher Education.
My clinical expertise was solidified during my time as Clinical Lead for Home Oxygen Services at Lancashire Teaching Hospital from November 2016 to August 2018. In this role, I applied advanced knowledge of respiratory conditions and home oxygen management, promoting patient self-management and motivational skills. My strategic approach to clinical governance ensured person-centred services, while my proficiency in advanced respiratory physiotherapy skills, such as arterial blood gas analysis and oxygen prescription, made me an invaluable resource for both patients and staff. My key learning experience was on commissioning support for home oxygen for people with chronic respiratory disease.
The foundation of my extensive expertise was laid at St. Michael’s Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, where I served as Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist and Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator from June 2007 to October 2016. I led strategic initiatives to improve care delivery and patient outcomes, implementing transformative changes in pulmonary rehabilitation programs. My mentorship extended to students and healthcare professionals including allied health professional and medical doctors in early years of training. My dedication to research was exhibited by publishing scientific articles and establishing quality improvement protocols that continue to benefit the hospital’s respiratory care services. I had promoted advocacy through establishing a multidisciplinary Journal Club bridging hospital and primary care.
Throughout my career, I was honoured to be invited as a oral/ guest speaker at Irish Thoracic Society (2009- 2016), Irish Chartered Society of physiotherapist (2016), International Lung health Workshop (2015-2016), chairperson for the European Respiratory Society (ERS) poster sessions (2017 to 2019). I continue to contribute actively to the ERS Assemble 9 Allied Health Professionals group, specifically within the Psychologist & Behaviour Scientist section, further emphasizing my commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing respiratory care.
In addition to these key roles, my early experience included positions including Primary care in HSE (Dublin) and diverse physiotherapy roles across Ireland and India, where I developed my clinical and managerial skills. Whether serving as a Senior Physiotherapist, Community Physiotherapist, Fitness Manager, or Clinical Physiotherapist, I consistently demonstrated a commitment to patient care, professional development, and service innovation.
Through every stage of my career, my professional’s passion for education, clinical excellence, research and community health has made a lasting impact on both my colleagues and the populations I’ve served.
